About 2 miles from Manchester Piccadilly station, on the east side of the main line to Stockport, the original Longsight depot opened in 1842! The shed was re-built in 1905 and modernised in 1957 to accommodate the first diesels, with electrification following in the 1960s. Today Longsight is one of 5 Alstom Traincare depots, servicing the Virgin Pendolinos, and Northern Trains 323 units. 86259 was allocated to Longsight depot from Willesden on September 29th 1991 for a stay of 6½ years working on Cross Country services.

No photographs of 86259 on Longsight Depot have come to light but if any site visitor is aware of any I would be grateful if they would get in touch with me (see contact page).
