9th May, 2009. 86259's first trip in preservation, when it worked in conjunction with steam. West Coast Railway Company's LMS steam engine 46115 “Scots Guardsman” would take it over at Preston. Although the first passenger pick-up was at New Street, for logistical reasons the train was formed at Birmingham International. Here, 86259 is seen waiting to leave platform 1. It was over on platform 4, nearly seven years before, that it received its "Les Ross" nameplates.

Half an hour later and ready to depart from New Street. This time, it's into the tunnel at the west end of the station instead of, as on previous occasions, out via Perry Barr and Soho.
